Day 19

Tonight my daughter and I used our 3 day complimentary passes for the second time and worked out at LA Fitness.

I have to say, it's a much larger facility than the little gym at my apartment. When I first stepped foot in there, I was like, wow! Size really does matter. I mean the place is humongous. The music was pumping and there was so much energy in the atmosphere. It's almost overwhelming. After our tour, my daughter and I were just standing there wondering what in the world should we try first. Seriously, it made my gym at home feel cluttered and claustrophobic. Now, I'm actually wondering if I should join.

Here's the thing, at my gym there's less equipment and it's more tightly spaced together, but at LA Fitness, they have lots of amenities with way more equipment that's up to date. Okay, there's a full sized basketball court, a raquetball court, aerobic classes, zumba, yoga, pilates and spinning. There's a pool. a sauna and a juice bar... and that's only downstairs...lol.

Also at my gym, I'm pretty much on my own. I can always report a problem with the equipment to one of the ladies in the rental office, but they're not going to show me the proper form or give me any fitness advice or anything. However, there's always staff around at LA Fitness so I won't have to worry about getting injured... again. I can even book a personal trainer if I'm in the mood to splurge. I didn't want to sign anything tonight and lock myself into a contract until I gave joining the gym a little more thought, even though they sure do their best to talk you into it. I told my daughter when we go back the third time to try a zumba class, I'll decide.

Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to put these two pictures side by side. Before and after: Nyla shed an impressive 157lbs with help from ABC show Extreme Make Over: Weightloss Edition

Before and after: Nyla shed an impressive 157lbs with help from ABC show Extreme Make Over: Weightloss Edition

Weight: 182
Glucose: 123 (This is getting a little frustrating. Last night for dinner, I had 15 almonds with my vegetables. Maybe that has something to do with it.)

Daily Food Journal:
Breakfast: Plain nonfat yogurt with muesli and strawberries, decaf
Lunch: Tomato basil hummus on 12 grain with lettuce and tomatoes, 15 grapes
Dinner: 1 veggie burger, mixed vegetables, 5 almonds and a hot cup of green tea with honey

Notes: I think today went great. I managed to get through the first 5 minutes of the spinning class, then I had to stop. My goodness, it was hard. My daughter made it through the entire hour. I did however manage to do 30 minutes on the treadmill.

Did I mention that the treadmills all have miniature fans on the sides to cool you off while you're working out. I got a real kick out of that.

Why make today great? Because you can.

  1. That place sounds awesome! I hate that all the great work out locations cost so much money

  2. I joined La Fitness and haven't looked back. it's $29.99 a month which was actually cheaper than the other 2 gyms I had been in. Try the yoga class and zumba and water aerobics. Most of the people in our Water Aerobics classes are plus sized to super plus sized. It is a great..Great! workout and easy on our bodies.

  3. I'm so glad you enjoyed your work-out again! That is super cool about the fans on the sides of the treadmills. Whenever I have been on a treadmill, I sweat like nuts so that is a great feature. I hope you and your daughter are able to join. Plus, it's great if you can go together. :)

  4. Good to hear you're going to the gym. My personal trainer is worth the expense and pushes me to the level I need to be at. Yeah, sometimes going to the gym really sucks, but just think of the end result. That is what got me to below my goal and will get me back there once again. You can do it!

  5. That gym sounds phenomenal! The gym at my university is like that and I fell in love with it the moment I stepped into it. They also have basketball and racquetball courts, pools and a rock wall!!

I actually ended up joining another gym (you automatically join the one at school through your tuition fees) and its on a smaller level (way smaller) and they enticed me with their plans to expand by the end of this year (yet, they haven't started any construction).

Next week, I will be canceling my membership at the second (smaller) gym and focus on the one at my university because they do offer more and is a better fit for me.

It sounds like LA Fitness is on a comparable level and I do think that having the added amenities plus the option for personal trainers makes you think twice about joining the gym because they are all positive aspects.

If you join, it definitely sounds like you will be happy with your decision because based on your posts I can tell that you and your daughter are enjoying it!!
